This June’s state primary election will have a major impact on the future of care work in California—and as care workers, we have a powerful voice. Voting is the most direct way to ensure the issues that matter to us get the attention they deserve. This election gives us the opportunity to choose leaders who share our values, who are committed to improving conditions in our communities, and who will remain accountable to working people like us—not big corporations.
After reviewing questionnaires, interviews, and member visits, the UDW Executive Board—made up of home care and family child care providers—endorsed Tom Steyer as the care workers’ candidate. Members selected Steyer because they want a Governor committed to fighting for care workers and the communities they serve.
Tom Steyer will:
- Raise wages for home care and child care providers
- Create stable, long‑term funding for IHSS and child care
- Oppose federal budget cuts and protect IHSS and child care at the state level
- Sign statewide bargaining for IHSS workers into law in his first year
Make a plan to vote: check your registration, know your polling location, and mark your key dates. Our wages, our programs, and the safety of the services we provide are on the line.
