Important Dates for the June Primary Election

Elections don’t only happen in November, and it’s crucial that we use our voices to elect champions who fight for us. California’s Primary Election is on June 2, 2026, but there are several key dates to keep in mind.  

This year, do not wait to put your ballot in the mail, turn in your ballot as soon as possible to ensure your vote is counted, and your voice is heard! 

Key Dates: 

  • May 4, 2026: County elections officials begin mailing ballots. 
  • May 5, 2026: Secure ballot drop-off locations open. 
  • May 18, 2026: Last day to register to vote for the Primary Election  
  • May 23, 2026: First vote centers open for early in-person voting in all Voter’s Choice Act counties. 
  • May 30, 2026: Early in-person voting locations open statewide.  
  • June 2, 2026: Election Day- last day to vote in-person or return your ballot by 8:00 p.m. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked no later than June 2, 2026.  

All active registered California voters will receive a ballot for the June 2 Primary Election. You can return your ballot at a drop-off location, county elections office, or by mail. If you mail your ballot on Election Day, be sure to get a hand-stamped postmark from a postal employee inside a U.S. Post Office.
