Vote for A Stronger Voice at the Federal Level

A special election is an election held outside of the regularly scheduled election cycle to fill a vacant public office or address a specific ballot issue. In this special election Californians will vote on Proposition 50, which would allow the state to use new congressional district maps for the November 2026 election.

In June, Republicans in Congress voted to cut hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for MediCal, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, which puts food on the table for the children in our care.

These cuts go into effect starting in 2026 and will devastate home care and family child care providers, our families and communities.

This is just the beginning; the cuts won’t stop there if we don’t act. New Congressional maps will give us a chance to elect champions for working families that will vote to protect the programs and funding we need.  Prop 50 gives us the power to protect our programs and have a stronger voice in Congress.

We Need Your Help

Why Prop 50 Matters to Us

In June, some members of Congress voted to cut essential services that support working families, including Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

  • Medicaid funds more than half of IHSS, the program that pays home care providers.
  • SNAP puts food on the table for the children we care for.

When Congress cuts these programs, everyone suffers. And this is just the beginning—the cuts won’t stop unless we act.

By approving new congressional maps, Prop 50 gives us the power to elect champions for working families—leaders who will vote to protect care and ensure providers and our families aren’t left behind.

By protecting care through Prop 50, UDW shows what we do best: fight for healthcare, economic security, and justice for working families.
