UDW Statement on Kilmar Abrego Garcia and Due Process

UDW/AFSCME Local 3930 stands in solidarity with Kilmar Abrego Garcia – a union member of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers Local 100 – and all of those being detained and or deported by the Trump administrations unjust immigration policies. His unjust deportation is not only an attack on him—it is an attack on every worker and person striving to build a life with dignity and respect in this country.

“We believe that all workers—regardless of immigration status—deserve due process, fair treatment, and protection from harassment and unjustified detention,” said Doug Moore, UDW’s Executive Director. “Kilmar’s case is a stark reminder of the systemic injustices that too often criminalize and target immigrant workers without cause. No one should live in fear for simply doing their job and contributing to their community.

“The fourteenth Amendment of our Constitution guarantees everyone due process, regardless of someone’s status. If someone like Kilmar, who had legal permission to be here, can be deported without due process, then no one is safe.”

UDW calls on local, state, and federal leaders to act immediately, follow the Supreme Court order, and bring Kilmar back to the US. We further urge policymakers to end the cruel and punitive practices that separate families, disrupt communities, and threaten the rights of all workers.

Our strength is in our solidarity. We will not stay silent as any member of our community is treated unjustly. We demand justice for Kilmar—and for every worker who calls this country home.
