SAN DIEGO, CA – United Domestic Workers (UDW / AFSCME Local 3930) Executive Director Doug Moore has issued the following statement in response to ICE agents injuring and detaining SEIU California President David Huerta:
“I am appalled by the actions of ICE agents in Los Angeles today as immigration forces continue to terrorize working people around the country and in our own state.
The fact that our comrade, David Huerta, was injured and detained while simply trying to witness and record these raids demonstrates just how cruel and reckless these raids are.
Since the moment I met David, his dedication to immigration rights was apparent and he’s spent his life dedicated to this fight.
All of us at UDW join our union siblings at SEIU California in demanding the immediate release of David.
From San Diego to Los Angeles, we’ve seen a dangerous uptick in ICE attacks in our communities and no one who stands for social or racial justice can stand by silently.
These raids must come to an end; ICE is terrorizing our local communities and tearing families apart. We call on all lawmakers to step up and act now and protect all of those living in this country and our state.”
