UDW Executive Director Doug Moore on the Election of Monique Limón as the next Senate President Pro Tempore: the future of care in California shines brighter

SAN DIEGO, CA – Upon yesterday’s announcement of Senator Monique Limón’s election as the next leader of the as California State Senate President, United Domestic Workers (UDW/AFSCME Local 3930) Executive Director Doug Moore issued the following statement:

“I want to congratulate my friend Senator Monique Limón on her election to this esteemed leadership position, and as the first Latina to hold this important role. A trusted leader in Santa Barbara County, she has long stood with UDW members in their fight for fair wages and benefits.

In 2019, we were proud to work with then Assemblymember Limon as author of AB 378, historic legislation granting family child care providers the right to unionize. She understands that caregivers are the backbone of the state’s economy. We celebrate her leadership and know she will continue to prioritize and fight for family child care and In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) providers as Senate President.

In times like these, when attacks on working families are coming from all sides, we need strong advocates in positions of power to ensure our voices are heard in the halls of the Legislature.

Senator Limón is that voice. She has been from the very beginning. Since day one, she’s been a champion for UDW members and for the more than 200,000 home care and family child care providers we represent.

I have no doubt she will continue to lead with integrity, compassion, and strength—and all of us at UDW look forward to working with her to uplift the future of care in our state.”
