San Diego, Cal. — United Domestic Workers (UDW/AFSCME Local 3930) Deputy Executive Director Johanna Hester issued the following statement today in response to the shooting at the San Diego Islamic Center:
“I am saddened and outraged by yet another senseless act of violence in this country, this time targeting our Muslim neighbors here in San Diego.
“The Islamic Center is not only a house of worship, but also a school and a community gathering place. It should be a safe place for everyone. Today, three innocent people lost their lives because of hate.
“Everyone, regardless of the color of their skin or the religion they practice, deserves respect and the right to worship, learn, and come together in safety and peace. We will continue to stand with our Muslim community during this tragic time and do what we can to help ensure that these acts of violence come to an end.”
