President’s Letter

Dear union family,

As we welcome a new season—sunnier days, new growth—we’re reminded that our fight continues.

When our workforce, our clients, our families, and our communities are under attack, we don’t pause—we organize. This June marks one of the most important gubernatorial primary elections of our lifetime, and we have a real choice. We can elect a Governor who offers kind words and slashes our programs, or one who will stand up and fight for home care and family child care workers.

Tom Steyer has promised to do just that. While your vote is your own, our union has done the homework. He has pledged to sign statewide bargaining for IHSS in his first year, advance the true cost of care, and protect IHSS and family child care from state cuts.

The governor’s race matters because the Governor signs the laws that allow IHSS to exist, protect rights like overtime and sick leave, and determine how child care is funded—from payment by enrollment to the number of subsidized slots statewide. Elections directly shape our wages, our stability, and our futures.

On June 2, stand with care workers. Vote for UDWendorsed candidates who will stand with us—and be accountable to us.

Every vote matters. Make yours count.

In solidarity,

Astrid Zuniga
