UDW Executive Director Doug Moore on the Passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson

San Diego, Cal. – United Domestic Workers (UDW / AFSCME Local 3930) Executive Director Doug Moore has issued the following statement following the death of Reverend Jesse Jackson:

“All of us at UDW are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the giants of our time, the Reverend Jesse Jackson.

“Like most in the labor movement, and in the civil rights movement, Reverend Jackson was a hero. A man who never stopped working towards justice in the United States, but also around the world.

“Reverend Jackson stood with all workers and all people who sought a better future for themselves and those around them. He understood better than most that the struggle of working people was a fight for unity and not division.

“Over the years I have had the distinct honor to share the stage with Reverend Jackson and march alongside him, most recently in both Arizona, were we marched and got arrested together at a sit in defending voter rights, and in Selma, as we retraced the steps of the Selma Bridge March to Montgomery, Alabama. Ensuring that we never forgot the past as we fight for the future.

“Reverend Jackson doesn’t only leave us with a lasting legacy, but with a roadmap. He showed us the work we must continue to do and how to do it if we’re going to realize the future of a country rooted in equality, equity, and justice.”
