California Proposition 42 was written and funded by billionaires to protect their own wealth from future taxes. The measure uses deceptive language to make voters think our retirement accounts, pensions, and personal savings are at risk, even though no one is proposing taxes on ordinary Californians’ retirement accounts. Instead, Prop 42 is designed to block future efforts to ensure the ultrawealthy pay their fair share, while hiding behind retirees, care workers and working families to win support.
For care workers, this matters because California relies on flexible revenue tools to fund essential public programs, such as In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Medi-Cal, and family child care. When billionaires limit the state’s ability to raise revenue, there is less funding available for the services and supports that children, seniors, people with disabilities, and working families depend on every day.
That’s why UDW’s elected board members, made up of home care and family child care providers just like you, recommend a NO vote on Prop 42. We cannot allow billionaires to use everyday Californians as human shields to protect their own assets. Protecting the future of IHSS, child care, Medi-Cal, and the services our communities rely on means voting NO on Prop 42 and standing up for a stronger care system for all.
