UDW Executive Director Doug Moore’s Statement on the Threat of ICE in Our Communities

For Immediate Release

San Diego, Cal. – The United Domestic Workers (UDW / AFSCME Local 3930) Executive Director Doug Moore has released the following statement in the wake of increased ICE violence and kidnappings in Minnesota and around the country:

“UDW unequivocally condemns the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the ongoing terror being inflicted in communities across the country. As a labor union representing some of the most vulnerable workers in this country, we have a responsibility to protect our members and all working families from institutions that operate unlawfully, undermine the Constitution, and dehumanize the communities that sustain this nation.

“ICE’s actions are not about public safety. Their actions are intended to intimidate, disrupt, and cause fear. The destabilization of working families, community-based businesses, and entire communities threaten the dignity and security of every American. Workers are the backbone of the American economy and weave the fabric of this nation.

“The lawless actions of CBP and ICE endanger our civil society and the values American hold dear. Outrage is not enough. This moment demands action. Organized labor must be willing to put its resources, titles, and collective power to work. We must not only take a stand against ICE, but actively demand removal from our communities. ICE is a danger to working families everywhere.

“We call on our elected leaders to act in defunding and dismantling ICE immediately and to hold those responsible for the killings and violence accountable.

“UDW also stands in solidarity with the communities of Minnesota and with all people around the country risking their lives and safety to protest ICE and this administration’s actions toward those demanding accountability and change. We are grateful for the power of a unified front and remain committed to working alongside organized labor, community organizations, and all advocates to resist these lawless actions that erode our democracy. Our collective power is our greatest strength!”
