UDW Convention

The 18th Constitutional Convention of UDW/AFSCME Local 3930 will be held June 17-21, 2024 in San Diego.

A convention has the power to amend the constitution, except with respect to the rates of dues, fees, or
assessments provided for in the constitution, and to do all things necessary to the proper disposition of any matter that may come before the convention for consideration.

Delegates to the convention are elected members from each of the UDW districts or county. To run for delegate, members must have signed an authorization card on or by December 31st, 2022 and had to have paid dues in the month of December 2023. To be seated at the convention as a delegate, the member must also remain in good standing for the 12 months preceding the convention. Only those members who meet these qualifications may run for convention delegates.

Elections for convention delegates will be by mail ballot. A Notice of Nomination has been mailed on or about January 12, 2024 and will include a nomination form. You may nominate yourself or someone you know as a delegate to the convention, so long as you or they meet the qualifications as written in the UDW/AFSCME Local 3930 constitution.

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF DELEGATES BY DISTRICT
From Article X, Section 1 of the UDW Constitution:

Districts shall be entitled to UDW convention delegates on the basis of membership as follows: one delegate per 1,000 member or fraction thereof; districts may elect two alternate delegates per district. All districts will be entitled to no less than 10 delegates.

AFSCME Convention

The 46th International AFSCME Convention will take place August 12-16, 2024 in Los Angeles, CA. Elected delegates from across the nation will come together to exchange ideas and re-energize our movement. The nomination for the AFSCME Convention Delegates are now open. UDW delegates will be elected to represent UDW, Local 3930 at the AFSCME International Convention.

EXPENSES:
All costs to send the delegates to the convention in Los Angeles will be paid for by UDW including all flights, hotel accommodations and a daily per diem to pay for all meals. The expenses of guests who are non-delegates will not be paid by UDW, Local 3930.

CHALLENGES TO THE ELIGIBILITY OF NOMINEES:
A list of candidates nominated will be posted on www.udw.org on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Any member or nominee may challenge the eligibility of a nominee. Any challenges to the eligibility of a nominee should be submitted in writing to Election Committee C/O Laura Spafford, 4855 Seminole Drive, San Diego, CA 92115 or faxed to 1-619-550-3105 or emailed to electioncommittee2024@udw.org. Eligibility challenges must be received no later than 9 AM, on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. The decisions of the election committee concerning all eligibility challenges are final.
