What is Happening

Unions Are Under Attack. We Fight Back.

Every day, workers are under coordinated attack under the Trump administration. This isn’t just policy—it’s personal. Learn the truth, share the facts, and join your fellow UDW members to protect what we’ve built together for our families and our communities.

Political Attacks Fueled by
Big Business

Billionaires and corporate lobbyists are waging war on workers, and they’re writing the rules to benefit themselves.

Behind closed doors, wealthy CEOs and anti-worker think tanks are pouring millions into political campaigns, court cases, and policy proposals aimed at dismantling unions. These are strategic efforts that show us they want to gut collective bargaining rights, push “right to work” laws that weaken our power, and block legislation that protects wages, benefits, and safe working conditions. The same people trying to privatize healthcare and slash public programs are coming for labor protections too, because union power threatens their profit.

They’re not fighting fraud. They’re fighting workers like us.

Media Misinformation Machine

Anti-union propaganda is flooding the news and our social feeds to confuse the public and silence worker voices.

Right-wing media outlets and dark money groups are pumping out misinformation designed to make unions look corrupt, outdated, or unnecessary. Their goal is to turn the public—and even workers themselves—against collective action. You’ve seen the headlines: “Unions are political,” “Unions waste your dues,” “Unions are dying.” These are myths. And they’re not just wrong, they’re dangerous. When people believe the lies, they vote against their own power. We are setting the record straight with the facts, the wins, and the stories that show what unions really do: protect people.

Divide and Distract

They want workers fighting each other, so we don’t rise up together to protect our rights and take care of each other.

The anti-union playbook has always relied on division. Anti-worker operatives use race, immigration status, gender, and job titles to turn us against each other. They stir up fear and resentment, fueling culture wars and distractions that divert attention away from those who are actually hoarding power. But here’s the truth: when we stand together, we win. That’s why we come together across communities, languages, and identities. Because our union strength is in our solidarity, and that’s exactly what big business is afraid of.

Undermining Democracy,
Not Just Unions

When unions are under attack, so are the foundations of democracy, racial equity, and public power.

Anti-union efforts don’t stop at the workplace—they spill into our schools, our hospitals, our elections, and our courts. These same forces push voter suppression, attack public education, and try to silence movements for racial, climate and economic justice. The goal of these bad apples is to weaken every institution that gives everyday people a voice. Unions like ours are one of the last lines of defense. We organize. We vote. We advocate for policies that protect families, not corporations. That’s why they want us gone, but we are here to fight back.

What’s at Stake in California

From Medicaid to a thriving wage and beyond, some of the most important worker protections in the country are on the line right here in California. When anti-union forces try to strip away our rights and cut vital programs, it’s our communities that suffer first. As a union, we are on the front lines, organizing care workers, pushing back on harmful policies, and fighting to protect the services families rely on every day.

Union 101

Get the Facts About Unions

There’s a lot of noise out there about unions—half-truths, myths, and straight-up lies about what we do and who we are. Let’s set the record straight with clear, informed answers to the biggest questions about unions, worker rights, and UDW.

Because when we understand our power,
we know how to protect it.
Why Unions Matter

Unions like UDW give working people a voice—on the job, in the law, and in the public eye. Union members earn more, are more likely to have health insurance, and face less discrimination and wage theft. For care providers like us, union power means better pay, the hours we need to support our clients, training opportunities, and having a voice in policy decisions. But it’s not just about us—when unions win, everyone benefits. We raise the floor for wages and push for policies that make our communities stronger.

Big corporations and far-right politicians are teaming up to weaken unions because we’re one of the last things standing between them and unchecked profit. Expensive and pointless lawsuits against unions, harmful legislation, and misinformation campaigns are designed to silence workers, cut public programs, and roll back progress. These attacks often hit care providers first, even as we work such essential jobs. If these anti-worker forces succeed now, they’ll come for more of our rights next. Fighting for unions means fighting for democracy, justice, and dignity for all workers across our country.

As a UDW member, you are protected, connected, and powerful. As a member of UDW, we have legal backing when something goes wrong on the job, access to paid training and certifications, and a strong voice in Sacramento to fight for better wages and working conditions. We also belong to a community that shows up for each other so we never face injustice alone.

Mythbusting

Battling Misinformation About Unions

They spread myths to divide us—let’s bust them together.

Dues + Money Myths

They say: “Union dues are just money down the drain.”

The truth: Our dues help us protect our rights, support our contract wins, with every dollar backing a member-led fight for dignity and respect.
Union dues are what keep our movement strong—and every dollar is decided and directed by members, not outsiders. They also fund our power at the Capitol—so we can protect programs like Medicaid and IHSS, fight for better wages, and defend home and child care workers from attacks.

No political games. No hidden agenda. Just members supporting members to win real change.

Politics + Power Myths

They say: “Unions are just political machines”

The truth: We fight for laws that protect workers- because when care is under attack, silence isn’t an option.
UDW doesn’t answer to political parties—we answer to ourselves, our members. That means taking action when lawmakers threaten our pay, cut vital programs, or try to silence our voices. From Sacramento to DC, we organize, lobby, and mobilize for the things care workers need: stronger wages, paid sick days, healthcare, and respect.

Politics is where decisions are made. We make sure that care providers and our clients have a seat at the table.

Public Opinion Myths

They say: “Nobody supports unions anymore”

The truth: Union support is at its highest in nearly 60 years-because people know we get things done.
A 2023 Gallup poll showed 67% of Americans support labor unions—the highest level in decades. That support cuts across age, race, and political party, especially among younger workers who are organizing at record rates. People are fed up with being underpaid and undervalued, and they see unions like UDW as a path to power, stability, and justice.

The public is with us, louder than ever. We are impossible to ignore.
